Measuring Guide

Back Length

The back length of the kimono measures from the base of your neck to the hemline. For an ankle-length kimono, choose a back length that complements your height. If you prefer a kimono that reaches half-shin or knee-length, we recommend selecting a shorter back length.

How to Measure Back Length:

  1. Stand upright and relaxed.
  2. Place a measuring tape at the base of your neck, and measure down to your desired length.
  3. Record the measurement in centimeters.

Shoulder Width

Yugto kimonos are cut with a generous shoulder width to provide the perfect flow and drape. This means our shoulder measurements are often wider than average, enhancing the kimono’s elegance and allowing for ease of movement.

How to Measure Shoulder Width:

  1. With your shoulders relaxed, measure from the tip of one shoulder to the other across your back.
  2. Keep the tape straight and record the measurement in centimeters.

Important Note About Shoulder Width:

The shoulder width also affects the fit, especially if you choose to wear the kimono open. If you have narrower shoulders, the kimono will hang lower, adding a bit of extra length. Keep this in mind when selecting your back length, especially if you want a specific look.

Arm Length

Arm length is measured from the neckline to the wrist or desired sleeve length. The sleeves will appear longer when the kimono is worn open, providing a flowing, relaxed fit. When wrapped, the sleeves will feel a bit shorter and the fit will be snugger.

Wearing Your Kimono: Open vs. Wrapped

  • Wearing Open: Creates a loose, flowing look where sleeves and length may extend slightly.
  • Wearing Wrapped: The fit is snugger, reducing the visible sleeve length and the overall back length of the kimono by a few centimeters.

Lamon Bay, Atimonan, Philippines

Christmas 1941

The fusion of cultures inadvertently began, as the Japanese Imperial Army landed on the shores, ushering in, yet another turbulent chapter to the already torn pages of the Filipino culture.

A gift from destiny?

An act of kindness

A kimono, gifted to a young girl to merely sooth her fright, evolved into a self-surpassing seed of passion, growing with her, far beyond this short lived chapter.

The transformation

Yugto

One day, the young girl, having long reaped the blossoms of her own story, gave one of them to her daughter Rose:

A modern kimono, made to bring joy in her upcoming chapters of adulthood.

a little bit of

Magic

Rose lovingly nurtured their shared story, growing it into many new exciting chapters, branching out into the world, far beyond its Filipino roots.

Her stories and her origins, always fused into the very fabric of the kimonos she made, transformed them into something truly magical.

The next

Chapter

Like her mother, Rose passed on her magic blossoms to characters throughout her story. Many experiencing their ingrained power, if they listened close enough.

Amongst them was also her adult son, feeling its pull at the right moment - ready to plant the magic anew.

Back to the

Roots

Thus, in 2024, Yugto started to sprout once again - in the place where it all began. A tree full of stories, planted by destiny, nurtured by the people of Atimonan and watered by the Filipino culture is destined to be reaped, for all who hear its calling.

Because what is a story, if it isn't shared?

Rose, the endlessly blooming flower.
